GLOSSARY
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
DEFINITION
GEO is the set of practices that make content citable by AI-powered answer engines (AI Overview, ChatGPT, Perplexity). It works on up-front answers, page structure, structured data, author recognisability and authority.
Generative Engine Optimization grew out of SEO and shares its foundations. What changes is the starting question. SEO asks what position you rank in. GEO asks who gets cited when artificial intelligence answers. Answer engines choose sources that get straight to the point, that make clear who they are (who is writing, for which company) and that bring original, up-to-date data.
In practice this means an “at a glance” block at the top of pages, headings written as questions, FAQs with the right markup, Organization and Person schema, visible update dates and your own figures. We do it in our GEO service, and on this site too.
