GLOSSARY
Search intent
DEFINITION
Search intent is what a person wants to achieve when they type a query into Google: find information, compare, buy or reach a specific site. It decides the type of page Google puts at the top.
There are four main types: informational, navigational, commercial and transactional. A page in the wrong format for a query will not climb, even if it is technically perfect. If Google shows product pages, a guide does not stand a chance.
You work out the intent by looking at the results page, the words added to the query (“what is”, “prices”, “best”) and the type of pages already in first position. It is the first step of every SEO strategy we build.
